Is 4D Tech going to make a SYNC 4 conversion?
The short answer: We don't know yet...
The longer, more complicated answer: SYNC 4 is brand new and there is little technical information available at this time. The first production vehicle with it (2021 F-150) debuted on 6/25/20. The system seems to have the same general function as SYNC 3 with the addition of many vehicle control functions being added to the screen. Without SYNC 4 equipment availability and technical information on are not yet able to make a determination on whether a retrofit will be possible. With the bigger screen size and large amount of integration with the vehicle's new features, it is not likely that a retrofit will be feasible in our opinion. If it were to be possible, most of the additions and advantage of SYNC 4 would have no use in an older vehicle and would not be backwards compatible. This would leave you with the core functions that SYNC 3 already offers. This is all the information we have on SYNC 4 at this time. Equipment plus R&D would put any possible upgrades utilizing SYNC 4 a significant amount of time past the actual release of the 2021 Mach-E and F-150.
